Akon was born on April 16, 1973 in St. Louis, a city in Missouri in the United States to African Muslim parents of Senegalese descent. Akon age is 47 years. His father Mor Thiam is a percussionist while his mother Kin Gueye Thiam, a professional dancer.
Childhood, and Education
Akon did not spend all of his childhood in the US though as his family moved back to Senegal sometimes at his early age before returning to the States when he was seven. He was born Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam but he is simply known as Akon as a musician. After his family’s return to the US, they settled in Union City, New Jersey. Akon attended Bayon High and Henry Snyder High school in New Jersey. He later attended Clark Atlanta University, Atlanta in Georgia but dropped out after the first semester and instead pursued a music career.
