Bairstow studied at St Peter’s school in Yorkshire. It is the third oldest school in the entire England which was founded by St Paulinus in 627 AD. Bairstow played for the Yorkshire in the second season of XI cricket league during the year of 2008 where he scored 305 runs with the average of 61.60. Due to his excellent performance, he managed to get the chance to play the final county championship match against Sussex but unfortunately failed to create the chance in final eleven.

After the season, he was signed for two years contract. He began to play for the 2009 season and scored 202 not out. After that, he was influenced to play with the Somerset after Michael Vaughan suffered from injury and cannot play rest of the game.

He scored 28 runs and bowled out by Michael Munday on his first-class debut. But in the second innings, he scored 82 and remained the unbeaten top scorer. A remarkable move made by him when he asked Gerard Brophy to give him the wicket keeping glove after he was injured, he took four catches brilliantly.

During the region of 2010, he played in the 16 matches as a regular performer for the Yorkshire team; he scored more than 900 runs with an average of 40. He made several fifties. But unable to make any century during the tournament. Later on, he was chosen to play against Australia in 2010.

But in the end, South Africa won the series by 2-0. But Bairstow contributed his 149 runs with playing only one test.

Eventually again he was not selected for the ODI series against Australia and Ravi Bopara was favored against him. Bairstow was selected for the T20 world cup held in 2012. He played his first match against Afghanistan and managed to score 12 runs off 10 balls and to come at place 6. Due to his 12 runs, England managed to score 196. Hence due to the brilliant catch by Bairstow of Asghar Stanikzai on the ball of Stuart Broad, England managed to win the match against Afghanistan by 116 runs.

After seeing his performances. He was selected for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and in his debut match, he scored 39 runs. He comes as the opener of the team. But the team loses its match against Kolkata Knight Riders. He made his first century in IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 31st of March 2019.

After scoring the first century, he became the first wicketkeeper to score a century for the IPL. He played ten games in IPL and scored more than 400 runs with an average of 55.62.
He also became the part of Kerala Kings for T10 league which played in Sharjah. He scored 84 of just 24 balls in his second game and remained not out. Which provide the path to his team with the seven wickets win.
